“What are the characteristics that set an impact player apart from an everyday contributor or a high performer?”
This was an interesting point of discussion in a recent Maxwell Leadership podcast with Liz Wiseman, author of Impact Players.
It may be clear who on your team is an impact player vs. a non-impact player. But it is harder to determine the difference between an impact player and a high performer…until the proverbial chips are down. That’s when a true impact player stands out from the crowd.
Impact players are like firefighters, who go toward danger rather than seeking to escape it. In fact, firefighters are impact players. They courageously go on the offense to help people, and they do, indeed, make an impact.
In business, impact players are those who meet challenges head on, who address the things that make a difference, and who stand up to lead when everyone else hesitates. They are adept at change and will lead a team through a crisis point, while also being willing to roll up their sleeves and pinch hit where needed.
How can you be an impact player?
