Previously, we discussed the leader’s responsibility for creating an environment of success for their teams.

In this article, we will cover another type of environment that a leader must create – an environment that fosters growth. When we foster the growth of our teams, the entire organization benefits.

How do you create this environment?

Get to know your people. Communication is key.

Respect and nurture individual strengths.

Own your responsibility for providing training opportunities.

Watch for opportunities to thank each team member for a job well done. Be specific as to the value of the contribution.

Take time to reflect on what is working and what is not. Encourage what’s working and guide your team to fix what is not…together.

Have a growth and development plan for the individuals on your team and include resourcing them with information and experiences to help build on their strengths.

We leaders carry a heavy responsibility to grow the organizations we serve. It is, indeed, about margins and the bottom line. But it is just as much about growing those who serve on the front lines as well. If we do that well, it will have a positive impact on the bottom line.

If you are a leader seeking to grow your organization, seek first to grow your people.

I totally agree. In order to build your organization, you have to want to grow and develop the people. You have to care to connect. Thanks so much for sharing your insights.
