Here’s a little secret I’ve learned from my C-wired friends.
It is the power of asking great questions.
- Why did this happen?
- How does this work?
- What caused the numbers to change?
- When do we do this?
- Why do we do this?
- How can we improve this?
They know that, when you ask the right questions, two things happen.
- You identify issues and causes.
- You find solutions and improvements.
Leaders must learn to ask great questions.
Sometimes, this takes courage and fortitude.
And there’s one type of question leaders must learn to ask first. These are the questions they ask themselves. These may just be the toughest of all – because they demand honest answers.
In this article, Mark Cole, Chief Executive Officer at The John Maxwell Company, lists 10 questions he asks himself.
They cover these critical areas for every leader.
- Personal Growth
- Motive
- Passion
- Relationship
- Effectiveness
- Mission
- Success
- Strategic Leadership
- Legacy
- Faith
Take 20-30 minutes to read the article and reflect on each question listed there. Doing this on a regular basis is a healthy leadership exercise. All leaders need to re-center at times, and these questions provide an excellent checklist for leadership health.
