Belief before empowerment.
This was an impactful discussion on a recent Maxwell Leadership podcast. The key point was that you must believe in your people before you can truly empower them. Otherwise, a lack of belief on your part or theirs will undermine their success.
Your people, at a deep level, are asking, “What do you see in me?”
They want you to see them, not for who they are, but for who they could be. Whether you are leading your children as a parent or your team as an executive, there is that unasked question beneath the surface: “What do you see in me?” And sometimes they will need to borrow your belief in order to move forward.
Great leaders know to look for the gold that glitters within each person they lead. Be the kind of leader who develops people in this way.
Believe in them. See what they cannot see.
