Meet Deb

Have you known two people with similar strengths, attitude, and character and yet, one has reached a higher level of success than the other?
Is easy to see this type of scenario in business.   Two colleagues both vying for a key role in an organization.  Both equally matched and on the same level in the organization and yet one out performs the other on the project by a wide margin, ultimately being placed in the key role.  While there are several possible explanations for the difference,  I would like to explore one in particular…’a conducive environment for growth.’
In a recent visit with one of my Mentor’s, New York Times best selling author and leadership guru  John C. Maxwell,  he talked about ‘The Law Of The Environment’ and John summarized it in one sentence he said  “growth thrives in conducive surroundings .”  Of course the opposite is just as true, growth is suspended in an inhospitable environment.
Think of an acorn.  Place it on a carpet and even with sunlight and water it’s nothing more than vacuum chum, its potential is no where near fully realized.
But, place that acorn in fertile soil, with the same water and sunlight and bam  it goes on a trajectory of growth displaying the fullness of its potential.
The same is true for each of us, place us in a poor environment or under the direction of a level one leader and growth is sure to be halted.  The best news here is that we can each create or place ourselves in that type of environment.
