Did you know that people you meet are asking three internal questions?

Your team members are asking the same questions as they consider buying in to your ideas and following your leadership.

Those three questions, according to John Maxwell, are the following:

  1. Can you HELP me?
  2. Do you CARE about me?
  3. Can I TRUST you?

The first is a capability question. “Do you have what it takes to help me with the given situation?”

The third question is a character question. “Can I trust you to be a person who is true to your word and consistent in your actions?”

The second question is one that some leaders struggle with a bit. There are good leaders who truly care about their people. But sometimes, they don’t take time or aren’t sure how to show they care.

In this John Maxwell Company Corporate Leadership Solutions article, there are some excellent tips for ways leaders can show they care. Whereas leaders are generally comfortable with recognition for a job well done, they are less adept at knowing how to effectively express appreciation in a way that honors their team members’ unique needs. It is, essentially, about learning the language of appreciation for each of your team members, and in this case, one size does not fit all.

Take a few minutes to review this article. Your team will appreciate it!
