With the most recent advancements in the AI world, mere humans are beginning to question their place and their value in the workplace. As in the past, when new technology takes hold, roles are redefined, and skills must be applied in new ways.
Think about the milkman.
For over 150 years, the friendly neighborhood milkman delivered fresh milk to homes, first by horse and wagon, then by a gas-powered and, eventually, refrigerated truck.
As grocery stores became more easily accessible and families became more mobile, society shifted. People picked up milk on their way home from work.
And the milkman disappeared.
Or did he?
Fast forward to 2020.
The milkman returned.
And this time, he brought the milk and other groceries directly to the doors of consumers. In some areas, the refrigerated truck has returned as well, and “the milkman” now works hand-in-hand with AI robotics to deliver groceries.
You are not AI.
AI shows no signs of going away anytime soon, and with the latest up-leveling of innovation, you can’t compete with it. At its current pace, it acquires about a decade’s worth of knowledge in a matter of hours, and that is about to take a literal quantum leap.
And so, it is even more important now that you be YOU. You can’t outpace it, and you would reach burnout swiftly if you tried.
You are not AI.
But you are uniquely…YOU.
What does all this mean for you?
This means it is important to revisit your innate strengths and skills and to find ways to use those strengths and skills in service to others. It may mean finding ways to use AI to enhance your abilities and productivity, while allowing you to operate more in your strengths. It may mean working alongside AI. Or, it may mean choosing not to use AI but to focus solely on your strengths of human interaction and support.
Knowing who you are at the core will help you establish your role and boundaries for how you will serve.
The milkman still lives. He just delivers differently, because delivering and serving is who he is.
What you do may morph and change, but how you serve…that is unique to YOU! Know your strengths and adapt them to service.
