It’s that time of year when we all think of GIFTS…and today I want to talk about the GIFTS of leadership. A parent leading a child, a teacher leading a class, an executive leading a company, or a volunteer leading an organization…we have all, in one way or another, been influenced by the leaders in our lives.
Generational Leaders
These are the leaders who have gone before us who have paved the path for us. These are those who fought in wars to preserve our freedom, invented the modern conveniences that we enjoy every day, built industries, cities, and a country, and worked to support the families into which we were born. They give us roots and guide us.
Inspirational Leaders
These are those who inspire us with their words – and even more with their lives. They encourage and give us hope.
Fervent Leaders
These are the passionate leaders – those who have a mission and a cause and who refuse to give up on things that matter. They challenge us.
Transformational Leaders
These are the leaders who have had direct impact on the course of our lives, those who don’t accept status quo. They change us.
Servant Leaders
These are those who humbly serve their fellow man. These are leaders like Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, who sadly lost their lives in service to their community.
I encourage you during this holiday season to seek out the leaders in your life and let them know how much you appreciate them.
And then I encourage you to be the kind of leader who is worthy of their investment in you. Ask yourself:
Am I a leader who provides a strong foundation and guidance?
Am I a leader who encourages and brings hope?
Am I a leader who inspires others by the words I say and the actions I take?
Am I a leader with passion who challenges those who follow to never give up?
Am I a leader who refuses to accept status quo?
Am I a leader who serves?
This year, make it your goal to give the GIFTS of being a good leader to those who follow YOU.
I wish you and yours a blessed holiday season!
