Organizations are living, breathing, dynamic entities because they are made up of people. As such, two things are constant: change and conflict.
A leader’s success depends very much on how they handle these two variants.
Great leaders take a firefighter approach to navigating conflict.
- They will, first of all, seek ways to prevent it from happening in the first place.
- They will watch for danger signs and contributory conditions.
- If it does flare up, they will bring the tools and team to put out the flames and mitigate further damage.
- They will rush in where others run out, in order to save lives and property.
- After the fire is out, they investigate the cause.
