When it comes to success, there is a very defining pivot point: it is that point where you hit resistance.
The fact is, you WILL hit resistance. There are no exceptions. Sooner or later, no matter what you do in life, you will encounter resistance.
It is what you do at those defining points that determines your likelihood of success or failure.
We like to think that successful people are those who are smarter, richer, or more gifted than the rest of us; but more often than not, they are simply those who persevered when others gave up.
Click here for just a few examples…some of them may surprise you.
They have one thing in common.
They faced resistance.
They have one other thing in common.
They refused to give up.
I’m reminded of the real life story of Chris Gardner whose life is portrayed in the movie, In Pursuit of Happyness. If anyone had reasons to quit, Chris certainly did. He lost everything – his wife, his investments, his job, and his home. Broke and homeless, he looked at the face of his young son and realized he could not give up. He had to overcome the obstacles and set the example his son needed in life. He went on to become a successful businessman – a multi-millionaire. But he did something even greater than that – he modeled to his son and the rest of us what a committed leader looks like.
Think about Nick, Chris, and all the others in the article when your next point of resistance comes.
Will you be the leader who faces the resistance and refuses to give up?
Will you be the leader who models to your team what real commitment looks like?
Will you set an example for those who follow you as these leaders have?
If you’re looking for the key to success, here’s a pretty good one:
Face the resistance…refuse to give up.
“It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”
– Albert Einstein
Being persistent and pushing past the finish line is a universal component of success. I agree with you, you don’t have to be the smartest or the richest, you have to start strong and finish stronger.
